Event Service Check – the experience behind our platform

  • Share on: may strike you as a new product for event service suppliers and event venues, however, you may like to know, we probably have more event industry and marketing experience behind us than most event service providers in the UK today.

Jon Hewlett – Founder and CEO

Jon has worked within the events industry for over 30 years, in both operations and sales environments. After leaving Birmingham College of Food, Tourism and Creative Studies he started working as a chef at the Royal Canadian Yacht Club in Toronto, before returning back to the UK to manage the De Vere The Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth, which at the time was one of the UK’s leading 5 star hotels outside of London.

After learning the management ropes there, Jon moved into his first sales co-ordination role with the brand new at the time De Vere Swindon Hotel, co-ordinating corporate events and weddings. After several years here honing his sales skills Jon moved to his first agency role with Conference Co-ordination. This involved venue finding and organising corporate events for organisations all over the world. Jon returned to venues sometime later as Regional Manager for Hanover International Hotels (now Barcelo Hotels) and then Regional Manager for Marston Hotels (now Q Hotels).

In 2001 Jon joined new business Chordiem (known as Aspect Event Management back then) as Sales Director, building the business from zero to a six figure turnover within 2 years and decided to buy the company outright in 2009. Chordiem still thrives as one of the most reliable and consistent event service providers in the UK today.

Over the years, Jon realised that the events were very ungoverned with many ‘cowboys’ operating who could spoil the reputation of similar providers, so in 2018 Jon started to focus on an ethical, transparent, online product which would focus an assisting two markets – Event Service Suppliers and Event Organisers.

Jon Says:

“Event Service Check is used by event organisers from major businesses and agencies as a portal to find the best suppliers in the location where their event is to be held so as to gain the most cost effective quote for event services. The portal allows users to search by service required and shortlist by the area they want the supplier to be in. They then simply contact the suppliers they think are best matched to their specification through any channel available on the supplier’s page. This includes telephone, email, social media or the suppliers on website as we know everyone has different preferences for communication.”

Sara Witham – Marketing Director (Evil empire)

Sara is the owner of Evil empire marketing and events, an agency that gives businesses all the benefits of having a marketing department at their convenience. Backed by a career of over 20 years in the events and marketing space, Sara helps to oversee the overall brand strategy and development, website, social and PR elements, as well as online and offline marketing campaigns.

She has the added advantage of being able to bring her years of experience organising events into play with the platform too. Having organised everything from Christmas parties and conferences right up to black tie events and festivals, Sara understands the concept of from both a supplier and organiser stance.

As well as vast experience in social media management, Connor also specialises in videography and photography. Connor produces the day to day posts and blogs for all our social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn, as well as planning future video projects for our forthcoming YouTube channel.

This means users can be sure that they are looking a bona fide supplier and not ‘cowboys’. The suppliers are encouraged to gain score ratings and reviews through the site to reinforce the reputation of the good services they offer.

The site was launched softly in early 2020.

Following the launch Jon said:

“It’s crucial for suppliers who join us to see how the platform is performing for them and their investment, therefore the site has a unique tracking page where the supplier can see everything from how many people have viewed their page to how many times they have been contacted through each channel available. They can look at this at any time through their personal and private account page.

The site is transparent in the way it works so suppliers who do subscribe can see everything. Even a counter to show how many visits the site is getting in real time.

This site is ethical in the way that it focusses purely on the services a supplier offers rather than the size or budget available. It is one huge, expertly designed page per subscription, only the content the suppliers add including video, pictures and text changes. We have a one price for all policy throughout.
